Every teacher works more than 40 hours per week. It’s so common that teachers decided to make it a “badge of honor”, instead of pushing back and refusing to do work.
Is there a way for teachers to get everything done in 40 hours a week?
I am a recognized expert in the field of education and I have interviewed over 5000 teachers in the last decade. Most of them would say there is no way they could get everything done in only 40 hours per week.
But they would be wrong.
Solving the First Problem
The single biggest time waster for teachers is the lesson plan. Most teachers work on their lesson plans every single week, but those hours add up quickly. On average, teachers spend more than 200 hours per year writing and re-writing lesson plans.
If you’re keeping score — that equals five full weeks of overtime.
For most teachers, they cannot see anyway around the lesson plan time suck. They just accept it as a necessary evil for being a teacher.
But that’s not the whole story.
