Can Buying Sportscard be Hazardous to Your Kid’s Mental Health? (image created with canva.com)

Baseball cards.

They seem harmless. How could pieces of cardboard with photos of pro-athletes imprinted on them, be dangerous?

And yet, buying sportscards could be hazardous to your kid’s mental health.

Sportscards are Synonymous with Americana

Sportscards have been around since the late 1800s and in the beginning they were used to sell products, such as cigarettes, caramels and bread.

Yes, even bread.

But then something unpredictable happened.

Around the mid-1980s, the US economy started to take off like a rocket ship, and with all this “new money” — the Baby Boom generation started to become more nostalgic for their youth.

You know the old saying, “my mom threw out my baseball cards.”

At this point in history, the Baby Boomers were now parents themselves and they decided to go back and rebuy all those baseball cards their mom threw in the trash.

And guess who was tagging along?

That’s right — their kids.
